The most racist-filled place on Earth: Xbox Live

Is it just me, or is America filled with racist pigs? I’ve been playing Halo 3 online since it came out, and there has not been one night where I didn’t hear a racial slur slung at me. And half the time it’s for no reason! I’m just sitting there, tea-bagging some guy after sticking a plasma grenade in his mouth, and I get called the “N-word”! That’s a little harsh, don’t you think?

I am not a black man, but I still get very offended when people say this. It’s not right, and it’s saddening that people are still subjected to this kind of juvenile behavior. What if I was a black man? How do you think I would feel? All I’m doing is playing a video game, trying to relieve a little stress from a hard day’s work. But instead of enjoying a little online gaming with my favorite non-Mario mascot, I’m greeted with a string of racial slurs that degrade me and my self-esteem.

I say this to you now, my dear readers: file a complaint against every single person you come into contact with that acts like this. There’s a system in place to punish these kinds of players, and we need to use it, in hopes of making Xbox Live a safer place for all of Zues’s creatures. I’ve reported every single player that I thought was rude and/or obscene, and I ask you to do the same.

If you don’t know how to file a complaint, here’s the link to the tutorial on Microsoft’s Support page. Change starts with you.

No one should go through something like this. It’s not right, and I want people to know it is not something that they should have to deal with. It’s the 21st century now, and we need to stop acting like this.

While we shouldn’t have to do this, my roomate and I have made the habit of using the few seconds before a match in Halo 3 to mute everyone in the game who isn’t a friend.

Also, Halo 3 has inadvertently made it easy to spot douchebags thanks to the Hayabusa armor.

Again, two unintended things that are sad that I have to resort to.

For those to cool to play Halo 3, what is Hayabusa armor?

Matt

There were a few times where the rudest players had the Hayabusa armor on, but I thought it was unlocked by acquiring all of the skulls in the main game. Do the skulls magically turn you into racist fuck-sticks or something?

TrueTallus, the Hayabusa armor is a suit you unlock that looks eerily similar to the one used by Ryu Hayabusa, the main character in Tecmo’s Ninja Gaiden. You have to acquire 13 skulls in the main campaign to unlock it.

The suit isn’t exactly the same, and I can’t find any info on if the word “Hayabusa” means something general. Here’s a pick of the armor (it’s in the middle):

And here’s a pic of Hayabusa:

the Hayabusa armor is obtained by earning all the secret skulls in the single player campaign. Its either from, or simply inspired by the Hayabusa armor in Ninja Gaiden, and looks like a crazy samurai mask. While not hard to locate for us, most Halo fans would never all the skulls on their own. If you see the Hayabusa armor, most likely you’re looking at a kid who burned through campaign on easy, watched videos to find all the skull locations, just so they could have the “coolest” piece of armor in the game to strengthen their e-penis. Its also the ugliest in my opinion. Its just kind of a sign that “I’m a nasty annoying and probably racist punk who didn’t earn this”. Headshots are the best way to deal with them.

The word “hayabusa” is Japanese for a “peregrine falcon”. Falcon’s usually represent grace and speed which is also why Suzuki has a 190mph capable crotch rocket that has the same name.

Ok, thanks for paying attention everyone, this ends today’s Japanese lesson.

I’m quite offensive when I play DOTA, but usually I have to be provoked. Fortunately battle.net is full of people who bring out the best in me.

On the other hand, I don’t think I have it in me to start dropping n-bombs with every kill. But if someone else starts dropping them, you better believe I’ll call them a red neck KKK tractor driving piece of white trash.

My current theory is that the Halo series has been a decoy – released for the purpose of drawing gamers with a tendency towards racism and macho posing away from all the other games, therefore civilizing the online gaming environment. (for the most part)

Microsoft, being the business-savvy company that they are, quickly realized the profit potential in this, and acquired bungie on the spot.

1) Racism is everywhere, and on both sides. In fact, through my own experiences, i’ve met a lot more racist black people than any other race. True, that is very innappropriate to use that word, in any situation, and it is inexcusable. Violaters should be punished. But, Xbox-live the most racist place on Earth? Seriously? You must live in a dream world pal. Yes, it’s a horrible word that should be forgotten, but the very race it insults has made it a very popular word. Inexcusable action, but you are highly overreacting. It is also possible that the people saying the oh so taboo ‘N’ word are black themselves. White people aren’t the only ones who use that word., so assuming that the people who say it are “red neck KKK tractor driving piece of white trash” is extremely racist in itself. EVERY race i’ve met has used that word, so please, in the future, try not to be so ignorant, ok?
2) How does wearing the hayabusa armor make you a racist? It is a possibility, that some people who played Ninja Gaiden and play Halo 3, actually like the armor. For one who condemns racism, you certainly judge by appearance, even if it is virtual.

Yes yes, words without intent are meaningless. Such high philosophy is fun but 99.99999% of the time, those words are said with the intention of being insults. Though I wouldn’t expect a vodka drunk Russian to understand that.

Common Sense, Matt certainly is exaggerating (we call it a hyperbole because saying something was a literary device sounds better than saying he is wrong) but his intent is clear and true – in day to day life, in America, racism is implicit and hidden. This is not true of Live.

Excuse me, Mr. Dago Giant-nose, but I was primarily responding to Common Sense’s idea of:

“True, that is very inappropriate to use that word, in any situation, and it is inexcusable. Violaters should be punished.”

And I will not back away from the “words without intent are meaningless” idea no matter how much “realism” you heap on top of it to obscure it’s basic truth. 99.99999% does not a hundred make. And no I am not falling into semantics. You can’t universally reject a word.

Why do you think Republicans switched to calling deforestation “the forestry initiative?” Because, it actually fools those people who have this universal idea of language.

People who get attached to the idea that some words are inherently bad are dangerous.

It’s not the words themselves that are objectionable but the concept of categorization. Categorization in general is almost always a means of exerting or asserting control over the object being categorized. Which in the end is all that language itself is.

Remember that woman from an episode of “Bull Shit” who taught her kids to say Santa Vaca when they are frustrated instead of Shit. She actually thought that by using a different word something changed. Preposterous!

Oh, and if Common Sense takes offense to the reverse racism of the Golden Jew calling someone a KKK sister-fucker he should really like this:

Anyone who enjoys HALO more than as a passing fancy betrays a sub par intelligence and Neanderthal tendencies. And True Tallus and the rest of us actually ARE cool for shunning the game. (For clarification: I understand that blowing shit up is fun. And even I enjoy it at times. But the category of people that I am dumping on here involves those who turn Halo into a golden idol it does not deserve to be. In short: if Halo is your golden idol of a game you are a Neanderthal. (The same applies to Golden Tee) At least these people still wear their hats backwards so we can tell who they are.

How’s that for racism?
